Mateo Messina and the Symphony Guild
Posted: 10/5/09Ten years ago I met a quirky guy who was a hired to be an inside sales guy calling international customers trying to sell them software. Turns out he was quite the musician and sales was not his first passion. He loved life and all that it presented. One day, not sure why, Mateo walked into my office and we ending up talking about Jordyn’s story. It was still quite fresh for me since she had only passed three years earlier.
I encouraged him to go to the playroom at Seattle Children’s and play piano for the kids because I thought they would like his fun rendition of Santa Claus is coming to town. He actually did it and was soon cornered by some of the more senior volunteers at the hospital including Phil Smart who encouraged him to think bigger. Mateo moved to LA to pursue his musical interests but has never forgotten Children’s. An award winning composer, he returns frequently to the playroom in Laurelhurst to play for the kids and has turned his passion into an annual symphony at Benaroya Hall to raise funds for Seattle Children’s. If you want to see a fun event with great music and a great cause, buy a ticket to The Symphony Guild’s event on November 6th, 2009. Symphony of the Superhero.
